What is Domestic Violence?
Domestic Violence is a form of abuse and controlling behaviour used by one adult against a partner or ex partner whether physical, sexual, emotional or financial. Domestic abuse destroys the home. No one deserves to be abused. The responsibility for the abuse belongs to the abuser. It is not the victim's fault. Symptoms of domestic violence:
- Using physical and sexual abuse:
Hair pulling, biting, shaking, pushing, pinching, choking, kicking, hitting, punching, using weapons, forced intercourse, unwanted sex and depriving you of food or sleep. - Using emotional abuse:
Insulting you and putting you down in front family or friends , making you feel bad, calling you names, playing mind games, humiliating you, making you feel guilty, treating you like a servant. - Using jealousy and blame to justify action:
Minimizing, denying, blaming, checking up on where you been or who you talked to, accusing you of infidelity, shifting responsibility for abusive behaviour saying it was your fault. - Using children:
Making you feel guilty about the children, using the children to relay messages, using visitation to harass you, threatening to take the children away.
